You Never Really Know If It's Working

Ten years in, the thing nobody warned me about is still the hardest part. Every step forward feels identical to the step before failure. The same feeling you get when a funnel finally clicks is the same feeling you had right before you found out the model doesn't work. The excitement of "we're almost there" and the delusion of "we're almost there" look exactly the same from the inside. That's not a solvable problem. It's just the job. What I did learn, earlier than most, is that most entrepreneurs have one or two things they can actually lead at. Not dabble in, not learn enough of. Lead. For me it was always software and technology. I could build. Pre-AI, post-AI, that's always been my lane. For a long time I looked at the people who were natural at sales and marketing and felt the gap. Wouldn't it be nice, you know? And the honest answer is yes, it would be. But what I've watched happen, over and over, is that the people who try to lead with the skill they don't have end up weaker in the one they do. The better play is to go deeper in your actual lane and find the people who lead where you can't. AI has expanded what "can build" means dramatically. I can move faster and further than I ever could before. But the lane is still the lane. Knowing that early was probably the thing that kept me in the game long enough for it to matter.
